Just in by e-mail from the Jim Martin for Senate campaign:
U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Martin will meet with local veterans before the 26th Annual Atlanta Veterans Day Parade at 10:00 AM tomorrow, Tuesday, November 11. Martin, who served his country as a Military Intelligence Officer in Vietnam, was a four-year member of ROTC at the University of Georgia and finished as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He has made veterans' issues a central part of his campaign, and believes Washington has failed to give our veterans and men and women in uniform the respect they deserve.
Jim Martin has served his country honorably and then some; and, Martin has never wavered in his commitment to our veterans and our troops.
With Veterans Day tomorrow, what of Shameless Saxby Chambliss' military service to our country:
Five student deferments (University of Georgia 1966; University of Tennessee College of Law 1968) and 1-Y medical deferment for bad knees (football injuries).
Tough break, bad knees. Must limit him physically. If only he wasn't regarded as one of the best golfers in Washington DC. (A contribution to Jim Martin via the Expand the Map! ActBlue page could help Saxby Chambliss free up his schedule for a lot more golfing.)
Well, even though Saxby Chambliss did everything he could to avoid military service himself, maybe he at least has a good record on supporting veterans? Actually, Chambliss has a horrendous record on veterans issues:
Disabled American Veterans
2006 60%
2005 35%
2004 0%
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
2006 D-
Vietnam Veterans of America
2006 57%
2005 33%
2004 0%
2003 50%
These terrible grades from veterans' groups are due to Saxby Chambliss opposing the New GI Bill, greater at-home time for troops between deployments, funding for body armor, greater funding for veterans' health care, and numerous other veterans' programs.
It also doesn't help Chambliss' standing that he questioned the patriotism of a triple-amputee war hero in a most vile fashion.
On Veterans Day, remember that Jim Martin is both a veteran and a friend to our veterans and our troops. Spineless Saxby Chambliss is no friend to our veterans or our troops. However, Chambliss is very tight with those whose job it was to read deferment applications. |
