Dan Mongiardo
Kentucky's Lieutenant Governor

As the one candidate in this race who supported Barack Obama in the Democratic primary and general election, I am also the only candidate in this race with a proven track record of standing up for working families.
Born in the coal fields of Eastern Kentucky, after medical school, I returned home to provide needed medical care to rural and underserved communities. Helping establish a free health clinic, I have seen the suffering caused by our broken health care system. That's why I strongly believe we need healthcare reform now. Where you live or how much money you have in your wallet should not determine the level of medical care you receive.
As State Senator and Lt. Governor, I have worked to expand children's healthcare, provide affordable prescription drugs for seniors, and been a leader in making medical records electronic which will save billions in cost and save thousands in lives. As the only Democratic doctor in the Senate, I will fight to ensure every American has access to affordable quality healthcare.
But we also need to create jobs and help hard-pressed working families who are struggling to get by. As State Senator, Lt. Governor, and U.S. Senate candidate, I am proud to have received the support of the working men and women of organized labor. As the one candidate in this race who has honored a picket line, I strongly support efforts to make it easier for employees to organize and for greater regulation of Wall Street.
In 2004, despite most Democratic insiders saying it was impossible, I took on Jim Bunning because I could not stand idly by while the policies of Jim Bunning and George Bush were hurting Kentucky families. Despite George Bush winning Kentucky by 20 points, thanks to grassroots activists, union members and working families, we came within 1.4% --a mere 23,000 votes-- of upsetting Jim Bunning...and along the way, we received more votes than any Democrat in Kentucky political history.
For our 2010 campaign, we are putting together a grassroots campaign second to none. We may not be the establishment candidate, but we have the support of hard-working Kentuckians who want a Senator in Washington who will fight for them. I ask the netroots community to join our campaign at www.drdan2010.com to bring needed change to Washington to improve the lives of these families. Together, we can build a better America for everyone. | Jack Conway
Kentucky's Attorney General

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss our campaign for United States Senate.
The best predictor of the future is to look at one's record. I am the only candidate in the Democratic primary for the United States Senate who has a record of getting results and standing up for the Democratic ideals of opportunity for all.
As Attorney General, I crafted sweeping legislation to protect our children from Internet predators; launched a task force to tackle the scourge of prescription drugs; tripled elder abuse investigations; stood up to protect our environment; increased recoveries for our Kentucky Medicaid Program by 600 percent; saved taxpayers more than $161 million, including $80 million in utility costs; and took on big oil when they gouged consumers at the pump.
Kentucky deserves a Senator who will continue to stand up to the special interests. The only way we will have real insurance reform, create jobs, educate our children, protect our seniors, and develop the new energy sources of tomorrow that include Kentucky coal as part of the solution, is to elect a Senator that is willing to be counted and challenge conventional wisdom.
I have a record of showing up to work every day and fighting for Kentucky families, while my opponent has relentlessly run for public office, produced few results, and practices the politics of division. Kentucky deserves better.
We are excited about our prospects - having raised more money than all our opponents combined, having the endorsements of Congressman Ben Chandler and John Yarmuth, and the backing of labor organizations representing more than 100,000 Kentuckians. I would be honored to have your support and I promise I won't forget my Kentucky values when I get to Washington. |
