Q1 of 2008 Ends THIS MONDAY!

by: Senate Guru

Sat Mar 29, 2008 at 14:15 PM EDT

The first fundraising quarter of 2008 ends this Monday night, March 31.  So, please, please, please contribute to the terrific Democratic candidates for Senate on the Expand the Map! ActBlue page this weekend!

Also, some of the Democrats vying for Senate seats have come up with very clever or compelling fundraising ideas.  Here are some examples:

With George W. Bush coming to Louisiana to fundraise for recent-Republican John Neely Kennedy, Senator Mary Landrieu is urging Democrats to counteract the Bush ATM by contributing to her re-election campaign.

Support Mary Landrieu
As I highlighted earlier this week, Congressman Mark Udall is raising funds to counter the contributions of Big Oil to his Republican opponent, former Big Oil lobbyist Bob Schaffer.

Mark Udall vs. Big Oil Bob

Rancher, teacher, and former Congressional nominee Scott Kleeb urges you to contribute to his campaign to implement Nebraska's brand of change.

Kleeb's Brand of Change
Congressman Tom Allen needs your help turning the red Maine lobster blue!

Turn the Lobster Blue for Tom Allen

State Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega needs your help to fill the boot.

Fill Noriega's Boot

War hero and former Senator Max Cleland is urging you to support Speaker Jeff Merkley.

Cleland Supports Merkley

And Speaker Merkley's Netroots Outreach Coordinator is asking for your help in "saving the world."

If you're able to, please give by Monday night to have it count toward the Q1 reporting.

Max Cleland
All I am saying about Max Cleland's fundraising...

In Georgia, our candidates have maybe raised 500,000 combined.

Max has been absent.

Now, I am all for helping candidates who look like pickups BUT, when he does it at the expense of helping homestate candidates...well...that is all I am going to say.

You're always going to take a hit in fundraising when you don't have
a top tier candidate.  Oregon and Maine are both races where we are being shaky on fundraising and could use a boost.  Also if the DSCC feels they need money, they can probably fill the gap.

[ Parent ]
fundraising good overall
Dems are actually raising well in OR. By the primary at the end of May,
the top two candidates may be close to $3mil raised, which is solid. The problem is that the race is evenly contested--which unfortunately is info that Guru seems to want to hide. While Merkley's campaign has been labelled "struggling" in the media and last week was branded a "loser" in the state capital's daily for running negative smear tests against another Democrat, Steve Novick continues to raise his profile--interviews with Mike Malloy and Slashdot last week--and his bottom line ($50,000 raised in less than two weeks, without help from Friends of Chuck.)

Guru is only giving one side of the race here, which is his right--but let's not pretend his coverage is evenhanded or capturing the true nature of the race (hint--novick has been ahead in every poll.)

[ Parent ]
There's been crap from both sides so far in Oregon.
I don't know what your goalposts are for fundraising in Oregon, but right now...

Gordon Smith (2007)
Total Raised - 3.5 Million
Real COH ----- 2.8 Million

Merkley (2007)
Total Raised - .91 Million
Real COH ----- .51 Million

Novick (2007)
Total Raised - .54 Million
Real COH ----- .29 Million

So although Democrats fundraising is good, it isn't sizing up to Gordon Smith real well.  If you add both Dems together, we are getting outfundraised at a rate of over 2 to 1, and he has a COH advantage of 3.5 to 1.  Not good.  The DSCC is going to play a big role here after we have a nominee.

[ Parent ]
media's cheap in OR
I'm working from numbers since 08--we know Merkley went over $1mil in Jan, although his fundraising had slowed from the previous qtr. I'm also hearing that Steve's national profile helped him boost his numbers significantly, and he blew by his $50k goal for quarter end pretty easily today--without the help of Chuck Schumer OR Blue Majority. The primary contest is delaying a full ramp up of giving, but especialy if it's Novick, he's going to be a national progressive darling. I guarantee it.

[ Parent ]
I don't doubt for a second that Cleland won't
come out for the eventual nominee, or get behind a clear front runner as soon as there is one.  Give it time.

Fundraising Update
NICE!  Here's how all the Senate candidates stand as of 4:00pm EST on 3/31/2008:

Mark Udall (Colorado)- $53,519 We've exceeded the total of $42,750 "Big Oil Bucks".  However, let's keep the momentum going for Mark!!!

You can make a stand against the Big Oil Bucks here: https://secure.udallforcolorad...

Mary Landrieu (Louisiana)- $45,510 She is ONLY $4,500 short of the $50,000 target, let's get her there now!

https://secure.marylandrieu.co...

Tom Allen (Maine)- $215,249.67 He is ONLY $35,000 from turning the lobster blue!  Rather than having that afternoon cup of latte, why not help Tom instead? You can feel good about making a difference and cut down your caffeine intake a little bit!

Please help Tom turn the lobster blue here:
http://tomallen.org/index.asp

Rick Noriega (Texas)- $32,333 Rick is ONLY less than $3,000 short from filling those army boots!
Rick has already given so much for our country, so let's give him a helping hand here:
http://www.actblue.com/page/ri...

Scott Kleeb (Nebraska)- ?? The Democratic Primary in Nebraska is on May 13th, 2008, let's help Scott blitz as much as we can before then!  His brand of change is exactly the refreshing type of campaign people are excited about!  (Look at all the comments in the diary below!)

Read more about it in his DailyKos diary here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

Join Scott's Brand of Change here:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

Andrew Rice (Oklahoma)- ?? Andrew has been working extremely hard and gaining traction by earning major endorsements from influential groups such as the AFL-CIO.  Like Scott Kleeb, if we can get Andrew off to a solid start, we can send him to Washington along with Scott to make a difference!

Learn more about Andrew here:
http://www.andrewforoklahoma.c...

Join Team Rice here:
https://services.myngp.com/ngp...

It appears by changing their goal from $25,000 to $30,000
that Kleeb has reached his goal now too.

[ Parent ]
Yea, glad to see Scott has the kind of support he's getting...
Let's get him to 30k!

[ Parent ]
Update II
As of 9:00pm EST...these are the numbers on each of the candidates' websites:

Mark Udall (Colorado)- $56,059!!!  Let's try to get that to 60K!

Mary Landrieu (Louisiana)- $48,205!!!  So close, it'd be a real shame if we don't get that up to 50K!

Tom Allen (Maine)- No change on the website, but that lobster isn't completely blue yet!

Rick Noriega (Texas)- No change on the website from this morning at 9am, but we can't assume he's reached his goal by now, give a few dollars if you can!

Scott Kleeb (Nebraska)- Just got an email from Scott's campaign, he's reached the 25K goal but now we're pushing for 30K!  That is definitely achievable, let's not let him down!

Andrew Rice (Oklahoma)- Just like all the other candidates here, Andrew needs our help!  He is a great candidate with great potential, let's help him oust Inhofe!

HUGE MN-SEN NEWS!
http://www.startribune.com/pol...

The article is about former Independent Gov-Ventura leaving a Senate run open.  It is highly doubtful but him running would really be interesting.  Ventura won the governorship by winning the suburbs, where Coleman will win and amongst young people, where Franken will win.  His candidacy would probably hurt both candidates, I dont even know who most.

Ventura already beat Coleman for governor but I doubt Ventura would be able to win this, he was a bit of a joke from what I gather (I lived in TX when he was gov)

Wow. Talk about shaking up the race...
Do you know the filing deadline?

A typical vice of American politics is the avoidance of saying anything real on real issues. -Theodore Roosevelt

[ Parent ]
oh god
It isnt for a long long long time (not sure of exact date).  We dont have our primaries until September since the DFL/GOP endorsement is just about always the deciding factor on who the party nominee will be.  (The primary is a simple formality and I can't think of a time where the endorsement winner didnt win the primary.)

[ Parent ]
Rice is now the top recipient
on Actblue (see home page: www.actblue.com)

He will post over $900,000 total raised for the campaign.

help State Sen. Andrew Rice beat crazy Jim Inhofe!

This quarter? Or last year + this quarter?
If it's total, then he raised 360K for the quarter.

[ Parent ]
I wrote "total raised for the campaign"
Just got word that he will do over 400K for the Quarter, putting him over 950,000 total. Tester was at about 750K total at the end of this quarter in 2006.

Rice is in good shape thus far.

help State Sen. Andrew Rice beat crazy Jim Inhofe!

[ Parent ]
Thanks for clearing that up.
I was under the assumption that that is what you meant, I was just making sure so I could gauge how good fundraising should look for Democrats.  Over 400K is very good considering his total for 2007 was 550K.  I can't wait to get the numbers from all the downticket races.
