Frankly I don't

think Slattery would be a very good canidate. If anything he might HURT downticket races. Having a federal lobbyist on the ticket won't help any Democrats that are running on changing Washington. It seems like there has to be a better canidate. I was really exited by Orman. It's a pity he dropped out.

How much money does Pryor have in the bank? Because he needs to send every last penny to the DSCC. He is going to be re-elected no matter what and it makes sense to thank the people who put you back in power and scared off any challengers.

And locally I am really glad Ciresi dropped out. He never really gave any reason for anyone to vote for him. Now it's between Al and Jack. Al is clearly going to win but hopefully Jack can push Al to the left on a few issues.

Arkansas

After the 2006 election, Arkansas was #4 on my list of possible Republican pickups. Louisiana was number one, and still it, South Dakota was second due to health reasons, and New Jersey was third because of age.

Of those four, only Louisiana remains competitive.

This is good news for the Democrats, bad news for Landrieu. After all, I don't think the Republicans want to be shut out two elections in a row and there's a good chance they will throw everything at her just to come away with one win. I think they might even sacrifice other seats just to win here.

Or fundraise for neighbor Landrieu.

This might not be as good as you think. If a Republican in Arkansas isn't running for Senate, it means they aren't going to be wasting money on a race they would have lost anyways. In other words, they can give the the RNC or NRSC.

pressure due?

i've been tarred & feathered before for any post suggesting use of greens or other third party candidacies for strategy...

but notice that the only candidate filed against pryor is rebekah kennedy, appears to be a young green party activist.

let's just say that if i lived in arkansas and the election was a choice between a green and a democratic senator who was one of the few democrats refusing to support the early anti-war bils in 2007, and who doesn't transfer a significant amount of their useless CoH to the DSCC...... i wouldn't have any compunction in voting for a green....

this only a preemptive suggestion to ward off the possibility that pryor is selfish enough to sit on his cash...

Pryor CoH ending 2007 = $3.6 million

According to Senate Guru back in February, Link Pryor had an astounding $3.6 million CoH. This is great news! Hopefully Schumer can convince him to transfer $4 million to the DSCC between now and November (Pryor will of course raise more than that, but its still generous). $4 million alone can make Mississippi more competitive, or Tennessee. Hell, $4 million could make even Idaho a tossup.

I hope Oregon & Maine materialize...

Odd that not long ago, I thought that Oregon and Maine were going to be the seats that took the Senate from DEM+3 (VA, CO, & NH) to DEM+5. Now I'm think they are on the edge leaning retention to the GOP, whereas New Mexico jumped up ahead of Colorado (along with NH jumping ahead of CO) and Minnesota jumping to the #5 spot. By all accounts, Mayor Begich is polling better in Alaska to make that the #6 take-over in the rankings. Even the initial poll in Mississippi-B has Musgrove in the race given Wicker is a newbie, some thinking with enough money (maybe Pryor will help out a fellow border buddy challenger), that is the #7 seat. That leaves Oregon and Maine as #8 & #9 in take-over chances.

I'd feel a lot better if Oregon and Maine tighted up to put them back up a slot or two and closer to a toss-up. As I've said before, I have to think Rep. Allen knew something I don't to get into the race with Collins and leave his safe House seat; in Oregon, it seems like the DSCC & ODP went shopping for a candidate since it didn't get its first choices.

As of now, I'm sticking to DEM+6 (matches 2006) for organization caucus to determine majority party: DEM 57, GOP 43. Mississippi-B, Oregon, Maine, or any other big upsets would be a welcome addition.

SEIU is huge for Merkley

In Oregon SEIU owns the ground game and I can just see the fliers with Obama at the top of the slate and Merkley right next to him.  This is a huge boon.
